Ely 2022

The Ely Classic Car Rally

Saturday 6th August was a big day in Ely this year. The Ely Pride Festival was held at the Riverside Park, and the Ely Classic Car Rally took place at the Palace Green next to the Cathedral. These events drew huge crowds into the City and many took the opportunity to visit both and also the Saturday Market.

‘Our’ show was a capacity event minus one - we had 99 cars on the Palace Green. The range of vehicles at the show was fantastic (Scootacar alongside a Lincoln Continental? Wow!) and we had excellent support from the local community – even the weather was good to us. Most of our participants brought picnics but this did not stop the bacon buttie van in the market place doing great trade. Their breakfast baguettes were worth the walk alone.

It was a beautiful day and we raised a substantial sum for Jimmy’s Cambridge, which is a community-based charity providing both support and housing to people who are rough sleeping.
